For many years this beautiful town was the leading site of logging as wood was transported down the Palizada River and then shipped to Europe. Campeche’s only “Magical Town” is marked by small, brightly painted houses (with French-style tiles) on the Palizada River’s shores.
This is the ideal getaway for those who seek peace, hospitable people, cultural surprise, and delicious seafood. Have a walk through town and visit Parque Libertad, with its replica of the Statue of Liberty, and don’t miss the “Malecon” and the San Joaquin Church, built in honor of the city’s patron saint. A boat ride on the Palizada River is a must if you want to see more of its natural richness. This is one of Mexico’s best spots for bird watching. North of Palizada, you could visit a crocodile farm where you can see this fascinating animal at different ages.
