You will already be amazed by the size of Mexico City from the sky. As the country´s capital, the "Distrito Federal" is a mosaic of contrasts that seems to spread until the horizon. Meet and greet with a local representative at the Airport and direct transfer (2,5 hrs) to the city Santiago de Queretaro. Check-in to your Hotel and join us for a walking tour around the colonial heart of Queretaro. Explore the streets of this bright and lively city and discover the myriad of tree-lined plazas, beautiful churches and mansions with their graceful balconies.

Depart your hotel at 4.30 am in the morning to drive from Queretaro to Bucarelli in the Sierra Gorda (approx.. 3 hrs). The road to the Sierra Gorda itself is already a delight to behold. In the zigzag climb to the mountains, you will be amazed by landscapes of high and medium jungle, semi-desert, tropical forest, coniferous forest and the misty cloud forests.
The reserve extends for approximately 400,000 hectares over the states of Queretaro and San Luis Potosi and is unique in its enormous variety of species and ecosystems. It houses more than 130 species of mammals as well as 339 bird and 650 butterflies. Not to mention the over 1800 types of plants. Enjoy the trek in this unique setting and discover the beauty of Mexico’s nature.

After breakfast we leave for the villages at Rio Escanela. . Protected by ancient plane trees, the crystal clear current of the Escanela River descends from the heights of the Sierra, where, as it plays with the limestone rock, has formed two unique features: The “Puente de Dios” (Bridge of God) and the Cañón de la Angostura (Canyon of the Narrows).

Enjoy a pretty footpath along the side of the river that leads you through small villages, past natural pools and beautiful rock formations. After lunch you can enjoy some relaxing free time in these natural swimming pools or meet the people of the villages. We will then continue further down to reach the Canon de la Angostura – the limestone rock formation are just stunning here.

Today you will rise at 1h00 am and drive for two hours where at approximately 3am we will start our hike to one of the most interesting geological sites in Mexico and the highlight of Sierra Gorda called Santa Maria de los Cocos and also Sotano de Barro. (Mud Basement). Sótano del Barro is an enormous pit cave or sinkhole encircled by oak forests that serve as a refuge for the last remaining colony of military macaws in Central Mexico.
The hike will take in waterfalls and canyons until you arrive at the Santa Maria de stunning botanical areas in the whole of Mexico.los Cocos cave - it is a 400 metre deep cave and its surrounding area is home to a spectacular array of wildlife.
You arrive at 0600h to enjoy the sunrise and experience the macaws starting their day. At dawn you continue your descent and proceed to Jalpan for overnight at the Mison Jalapan hotel – the remainder of your day is free for leisure.

A nice and easy day lies ahead of you. After yesterday’s early start you will drive today from Jalpan to Xilita (approx. 1,5 hrs) to visit the Sir Edward James Gardens. Sir Edward was an eccentric British gentlemen who was alive in the time of Picasso and Salvador Dali.
Inspired by surrealism he moved to Mexico where he created Laz Pozas “The Pools” – they are set more than 2,000 feet above sea level in a tropical rain forest near the village of Xilitla. James creation consists of more than 80 acres of natural pools, waterfalls, and towering sculptures made of cement. For about a decade, this “surrealist Xanadu” housed a vast variety of tropical animals and plants, in particular beautiful orchids.
Today you will walk through the gardens, where you can relax, swim in the pools and be amazed by your surreal surroundings.

One more time we will start our day early. At 3.30 am we will drive to Sotano de las Golondrinas, also known as the Cave of Swallows. Its size already makes it unique – it is the 11th deepest cave in the world and more importantly has the largest cave shaft in the world. The name of the cave is owned to the many birds which live in the holes on the cave walls and are the reason for a wonderful spectacle. Each morning flocks of birds exit the cave by flying in concentric circles, gaining heights until they reach the entrance. As we will start this early, you will be able to witness this beautiful natural choreography.

Today we will visit the river Tampaon – a picture perfect landscape. The lush rainforest really is gorgeously green. Rivers reflect a brilliant turquoise. And waterfalls are acutely aquamarine. Surrounded by the green jungle we trek along the river path passing by waterfalls and river cascades as we go. The waterfall Tamul is our final destination for today. Sheets of water plunge more than 340 feet straigt into the Tampaon River. Take your time to swim, relax and take some photos to remember this beautiful setting.

In the beginning of the day we will visit the Puente de Dios (God’s Bridge) which is a type of cavern formed by natural rock and through which the rays of the sun enter through a crevice, creating an effect of artificial illumination on the water. It consists of waterfalls into a narrow gorge and cavern beneath an arch through which the Gallinas River runs rapidly. Blue and clear water pools for swimming are at the top and bottom of the cavern.
Afterwards we head towards Tamasopo. Find out why Tamasopo is so famous for its enchanting waterfalls. It is a place of lush vegetation, divided by water slides, small rivers and waterfalls up to 20 meters of height. The character of the waterfalls reminds some travellers of Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon.

Trekking Time: 6 to 7 hrs

Before returning to Queretaro we will make a half day tour to the Micos Waterfalls. In total there are seven waterfalls that are divided by pools of turquoise blue water due to the minerals they contain. When you see the pools, you will not be able to avoid swimming and it is just the type of adventure that you should take advantage of. It is also the perfect spot for some waterfall jumping, river rafting and other adventurous activities.
After Lunch we will continue to Queretaro. Enjoy the carefully orchestrated system of flood lightning at night that gives the whole city a wonderful look, feel and atmosphere.

Today is your farewell to Mexico! At proper time transfer to Mexico City Airport to check in flight bound to Mexico City and connect with flight back home.
